Bio
Hi, I'm Mary!
I am a 27-year-old queer-identifying disabled writer living in Charlotte, North Carolina.
I graduated from the College of Charleston’s REACH program in May of 2016 with a Certificate in Women and Gender Studies. The REACH program is a fully inclusive program for individuals with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities.
My passion for writing as a creative medium comes from my feminist beliefs, values, and morals. When I was a student at the College of Charleston, I wrote for an online publication called Her Campus on disability issues, lifestyle, and entertainment. After I graduated, I continued to use my voice and experience to write on social justice issues in addition to lifestyle topics. In October of 2018, I became a Writing Intern at a local Charlotte Magazine, Level21, and I have contributed a unique perspective on mental health and disability issues to a publication that focuses on local entertainment and social news. In February of 2020, I tranisitioned from an Intern to a Contributing Writer. I am also a Contributing Writer at The EveryGirl.
I’ve learned that working from home is best for my mental and physical wellbeing. It’s important to me to have the flexibility to create my own schedule and not be tied down to a desk. As a disabled person, I feel that being in this environment I would have a greater chance for stability (whether it be financial or independent).
