Books, Film, Theatre, Poetry, Fiction, Art, Music, Ethics, Disability Culture, Accessibility, Disability Rights, Education, Food, Feminism, Religion, LGBQT, Disability, Travel, Lifestyle My name is Jerry Mercury (Dzherri Merkiuri as it is in my passport), I was born in 1987, and I am a transgender disabled artist and self-advocate. My pronouns are he, him. Although I was born in the USSR and lived almost all my life in Russia, in April 2022 I had to flee from the country to Europe, and to ask for political asylom. I have been doing self-advocacy as an autistic, ADHD and dyslexic person since 2020. The educational work in the field of disability justice that I have been conducting consists primarily of my self-advocacy films that are screened mainly in the Indiana University Bloomington. Also, I have advised the teachers of the Russian language on how to present the topic of disability in a language textbook and given there a few interviews on my experience as a disabled person. As disabled person, self-advocate and artist I believe that my experience is very important to share because I am at the intersection of many disadvantaged groups at the same time. Here is a short video where I give a summary about life journey and disability justice activism: https://youtu.be/qPanL-aj4lE
Media, Film, Television, Politics, Disability Culture, Accessibility, Disability Rights, Education, Americans with Disabilities Act, Disability, Relationships, Service Animals My specialty is comedy writing. I was born with Asperger's Syndrome and humor has always been my go-to "tude" whenever life threw me a lemon. I have worked as a freelance joke writer for Jay Leno's monologue on "The Tonight Show" and have experience as a standup comic. I have written a comedy pilot loosely based on my life growing up with Asperger's about a teenager obsessed with solving crimes. I have also written comedy sketches, plays and a children's show. In addition, I have trained service dogs and given birth to two wonderful sons who happen to have autism.
Dance, Disability Culture, Accessibility, Disability Rights, History, LGBQT, Disability I bring awareness to the conditions I face on a day-to-day basis through my writing. I started writing about them to work through my feelings surrounding my conditions and the issues surrounding chronic illnesses in the workplace. I wanted to learn more about myself, share my story, and hopefully help just one person out there feel less alone.
