Joy Mosenfelder | Media, Pop Culture, Medicine, Books, Poetry, Fiction, Art, Ethics, Philosophy, Disability Culture, Accessibility, Disability Rights, Criticism, Feminism, LGBQT, Disability, Sexuality, Technology | Joy is a highly versatile writer, editor, and multimedia storyteller who grew up running feral in the woods just off a two-track dirt road on the shoreline of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan side of Lake Michigan’s Green Bay. Joy has a BFA in Creative Writing and a minor in Gender Studies from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH, and an unfinished Master’s of Science in Regional Social and Economic Development from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, MA. Joy has published a few short stories, poems, and magazine articles, however, their best work appears with no byline in the narratives of various grant applications, policy briefs, and annual reports. Joy spent several years as an advocate for survivors of interpersonal violence, a housing coordinator, and a community organizer before settling into a career as a nonprofit human services communications and public relations specialist in Boston, MA. Joy led a colorful life filled with adventures, friends, and chosen family scattered across the Great Lakes, New England, and Mid-Atlantic regions before an unexpected case of Optic Neuritis turned into a Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis in 2012. Turns out MS is a terrible roommate. The extra work required to manage it has left Joy much more incline to be a homebody. Now a consummate city mouse, Joy cohabitates with twin black cats, Luke Skywhisker and Leia Meowgana in a cozy garden level condo across the street from a charming pocket park in Boston’s historic Roxbury neighborhood. |
